Matthes, f\u00f8dt 1915, var s\u00f8n af snedkermester S. W. Matthes, og hjalp allerede som dreng sin far p\u00e5 v\u00e6rkstedet, der l\u00e5 B\u00f8gegade 6, i \u00c5rhus. Han blev dog&nbsp;uddannet som m\u00f8belpolstrer hos Hansen og Olsen p\u00e5 Tr\u00f8jborg, og arbejder der en \u00e5rr\u00e6kke, sidst som mester.<\/p>\n<p>I&nbsp;1945&nbsp;etablerer han&nbsp;sig&nbsp;som selvst\u00e6ndig. F\u00f8rst med b\u00e5de m\u00f8belbutik og v\u00e6rksted p\u00e5 Klostertorv 6.<\/p>\n<p>Allerede fra 1947 v\u00e6lger han at satse 100% p\u00e5 fabrikation og lejer et st\u00f8rre v\u00e6rksted i Frederiksgade 50. Det er her hvor udviklingen af egne designs tager fart. I 1952 fremstilles de f\u00f8rste udgaver af hans mest succesrige design, stolen, der fik navnet 33.&nbsp;I 1953 flyttes v\u00e6rkstedet til L\u00f8gten nord for \u00c5rhus.&nbsp;&nbsp;Stolen videreudvikles, og den lille harmoniske stol med den unikke siddekomfort, blev meget popul\u00e6r.&nbsp;Helt frem til 1965 var den i produktion og blev solgt i tusindvis og var udvalgt til Verdensudstillingen i Bruxelles i 1958.<\/p>\n<p>C.E. Matthes deltog allerede i 1947-49 p\u00e5 k\u00f8best\u00e6vnet i Fredericia med arkitekttegnede m\u00f8bler. Fra 1952-1965 p\u00e5 m\u00f8belmessen i Fredericia,&nbsp;pr\u00e6senteredes egne designs. &nbsp;I anledning af, at C. E. Matthes i 2015 ville have&nbsp;fyldt 100 \u00e5r, blev stolen relanceret.&nbsp;I en begr\u00e6nset periode bliver alle stole polstret&nbsp; i L\u00f8gten af Bj\u00f8rn Matthes, der stadig&nbsp;arbejder p\u00e5 det oprindelige polsterv\u00e6rksted, som han overtog efter sin far,&nbsp;C. E.
